Lesson: Your Logo Here
“Sports Jersey advertising! Is nothing sacred!?” I hear some people exclaim. Well, it’s true, and it’s happening. This season has been the first time one of the big four North American sports (MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL) has allowed advertising on their jerseys. Soccer has had sponsors on jerseys for more than 50 years. In Japan, professional baseball teams are named after the companies that own them, meaning the team itself is an advertisement. North American sports leagues have been reluctant to allow sponsors’ logos on jerseys for various reasons, such as ruining the perceived purity of the game or somehow cheapening it. I am a purist and am against sponsor names or ads on jerseys. What are your thoughts on this matter?
