Lesson: Wrangling with Wonky Waste
“Ugly food” or “wonky veg” is slowly being considered as a way to reduce food waste and combat inflation. Have you ever thought about how much food is wasted globally? It’s pretty shocking – about one-third of all food produced is wasted! This harms the environment and contributes to climate change, and makes food prices higher due to the demand for “perfect” looking produce. This means fruits and veggies that don’t meet the standard aesthetic requirements for grocery stores are never offered for sale. By buying and eating ugly food, we can help reduce food waste and fight against rising costs. Next time you’re at the store, why not try some wonky veg? It’s a small step that can make a big difference for our planet and wallets.
