Lesson: Triage: Who Gets What? Why?

Nothing in this world is available everywhere, all the time, in infinite quantities. For the past 75 years, the Western world has depended on the capitalist system to regulate the finite supply of everything from life-saving surgery to Smarties. Well, the pandemic of 2020 has changed that. Medical workers around the world have had to make tough life-or-death decisions regularly. These decisions range from who is eligible to be tested to who is put on a ventilator. It’s called triage, and it doesn’t only apply to medicine. Governments, too, have had to triage businesses by deciding which are essential and which are not necessary for countries to function. Often, the decisions they make determine whether a company will be able to survive or fail in this pandemic period of upheaval. Here’s hoping your hardest decision today is what to have for supper.
