Lesson: To Vaccinate or Not

Thanks for booking another lesson. This time I have a current events topic for you. You may have heard about the ongoing measles outbreak (2019) occurring in many Western nations, including Japan. Were you aware that its primary cause is anti-vaxxers? An anti-vaxer is a person who believes vaccinations are not a good thing. Some believe vaccination can have severe side effects, such as causing disease or even autism. Then others refuse on religious grounds. Still, others say there is a government conspiracy to infect everyone with some virus to control us. I know what you’re thinking, but I’m very serious here. In this lesson, we’ll talk about vaccinations, the right to refuse vaccinations, the possible repercussions unvaccinated people pose to society in general and what governments should do about it.

Each conversation topic is based on a theme. In order to help students acquire a basic understanding of that topic, four media articles are provided for them to read. I will never test you on the articles, but I strongly suggest you book lessons far enough in advance to give yourself enough time to properly prepare. The better prepared you are, the more benefit you will receive from our conversations.
