Lesson: The Pandemic & The Food Chain

Governments were quick to dismiss the idea of food shortages as a result of the pandemic. What makes COVID-19 so scary is the fact people fear the unknown. At first, people panic-bought toilet paper because they feared a lack of supply. Of course, now we all know that was silly, but should we begin to worry about disruption to the food chain? Grocery stores have experienced temporary shortages of various things, from dry yeast to minced meat. Most of these shortages have been or will be short-lived. The main question now is, should we fear the long-term effects of measures to ‘flatten the curve’ on the global food chain?
