Visit any big city, and you’ll quickly find stores for big luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton etc. Then go out into the burbs, and you’ll find the same stores in shopping centres that cater to the middle class. Expensive brands have taken their products mainstream to maximize profits. Now, these brands have lost their lustre in their quest to increase profits. You can see a man wearing a watch worth tens of thousands of dollars sitting on a commuter train next to a student or part-time worker. Is that luxury? Is that the true meaning of luxury? Food for thought: What in your daily life do you consider luxurious?
