It feels like we are jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. We thought the worst of the pandemic was behind us for the second time. Just as people dared to dream of spring and summer vacations, plane travel, and road trips, Russia invaded Ukraine, sparking a full-blown war, drastic sanctions, and rapidly rising oil prices. Gasoline prices were already growing at the pump, and now they are shooting up. What would happen if oil were to hit US$185-200 per barrel? Only a few weeks ago, it seemed as if prices in Japan would never rise. Now they may not stop rising. What cost will we pay for the Russo-Ukraine war and the coming oil shock?
