Lesson:
The Code
We’ve all worn School Uniforms. If you’re like me, you also hated your school uniform. I went to Catholic schools during grade school but didn’t have to wear a uniform in high school. Working in Japan was the first time I had to wear a tie. Yes, believe it or not, I had not worn a tie for the first 26 years of my life. When I first started working at Aeon, I didn’t even know how to tie a tie. I interviewed in Canada in jeans and a T-shirt. In Japan, there’s a uniform for everyone from the building custodian to the CEO of a significant company. Everyone wears a uniform of sorts. Is it necessary, though? If you’re a researcher, does your white coat make you feel professional? If you work in an office, does your ‘power suit‘ actually have power? Let’s talk about uniforms and their importance or lack thereof.
