Lesson: Scientific Integrity

There used to be a time when scientists were the rock stars of the academic world. Funding for space, nuclear or basic research was everywhere. Those days are long gone. Scientists are under siege and face pressure to perform and produce. Governments and private corporations demand tangible results on a deadline for the research projects they fund. At times they even try to dictate the results. Some things just can’t be rushed, and results are not always fruitful, but the pressure is too much for some researchers and causes them to cook the books or even manufacture data. Where will this lead, and how can we right the ship?
