Lesson: Salary Transparency
At the beginning of 2018, there was a pay inequality scandal at the BBC. For no apparent reason, men were out-earning women at almost every level. An inquiry was conducted, and now they announce salaries for on-air staff and all off-air staff earning over £150,000 per year. Women infamously earn less than men in most countries, especially Japan. Most employees don’t know what their coworkers bring in, and asking is a huge social faux pas. Would forced salary transparency help reduce gender-based pay inequalities?
