Lesson: Reboot After Shutdown

It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t sudden, but most of the economies of the world have been shut down. The specialists have said the only way to prevent our healthcare systems from being overrun with people sick from COVID-19 was to social distance. We’ve now entered into a great worldwide experiment. What happens when people stay home, stores close, restaurants turn off their lights, and everyone fears becoming the next victim of a crazy Zoombomber? As exciting as that discussion may be, we are not going to discuss it here. We’re going to look into the future. It may be near, or it may be far, but we’re going to discuss how to reboot an economy that has been shut down. It’s important to note that the economies were never shut down to save lives. That was never the purpose. The purpose of the shutdown was to protect the healthcare systems from collapse. When is the proper time to reopen everything? Do we sacrifice lives for the economy? How many lives? Should it be a soft reboot or a hard one?
