Lesson: Positively Loony

How does the moon affect people? Perhaps the more appropriate question is, does the moon affect people? For thousands of years, people have believed that the waxing and waning of the moon have caused mood changes in humans. The word lunatic comes from the Latin lunaticus, which derives from luna or moon. There was, and still is among some, the belief that the full moon drives people crazy. Scientists have weighed into the debate. For example, numerous studies have been conducted to determine if American cities witness more violence on nights with a full moon. That’s what we’ll be discussing in this lesson – does the moon drive people loony?
