Lesson: Pocket Power
I’m a man with four sisters, a mother, and a wife of more than 20 years, yet I never realized women’s fashion lacks functional pockets. Compared to men’s clothing, which typically features deep and spacious pockets, women’s pockets are often small or non-existent. Some women’s clothing even has fake pockets as fashion with no function. This design flaw frustrates women because it is impractical. The absence of pockets is one reason women carry purses or bags. One of my students recently talked about her long search for outerwear with pockets. That’s why I created this discussion topic. Fortunately, some clothing brands have recognized this issue and are now designing women’s clothing with more practical and spacious pockets. This shift towards functional pockets in women’s clothing is a positive step towards greater equality and convenience in fashion.
