Lesson: Pandemic Profiteering

The coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has been an economic shock to every nation of the world. Millions of people have lost their jobs, hundreds of thousands of companies have reduced profits and thousands of businesses have gone bankrupt. Not all shocks affect all people in the same way. Some individuals and companies are making a profit; in some cases, huge profits. When so many people in the world are suffering, is it ethical or acceptable to make money? Is there a permissible limit on the amount of money an individual or firm can earn before it becomes antisocial profiteering? Can and should prices be raised when demand is high, even if we are in the midst of an ongoing crisis?
