Lesson: Digging in the Deep

Our world is becoming ever more complicated. Technology is improving our lives daily, but at the same time, we humans are growing increasingly aware of the fragility of the planet on which we live. Oceans cover 70% of the world’s surface, and very little of that area has been explored, and less is understood about it. Now, to feed our ever-increasing demand for natural resources required by our technology, we are in the nascent stages of deep-sea mining. Governments and mining companies believe this could be a significant breakthrough to access the materials that we need. At the same time, scientists are concerned that we may irreparably damage or destroy what we don’t yet understand.
