Lesson: Bugging out
The bugs are bugging out. Now, while your initial reaction may be, “Thank God, I never liked bugs anyway,” you should be careful what you wish for because you might get it. Insects of all types play a vital role in keeping the world humming along. Without bugs, there would be no food. Farmers depend on bugs to pollinate their crops. It’s very time-consuming and expensive for humans to do it by hand. Many animals depend on bugs as their food source. Removing one species from the food chain will create knock-on effects. If there are no bugs, for example, then there will also be no birds. It gets more complicated than that, though. I’m simplifying it to keep the introduction to this lesson short. Read on to learn about the ongoing bug Armageddon and what it means for us humans.
