Lesson: Sparking Joy, Sparks Anger

Well, there’s been a lot going on for Marie Kondo recently. Marie Kondo, or KonMari, has become a household name in North America. She’s the tiny Japanese lady who squeaks and encourages people to get rid of possessions that do not ‘spark joy’ in their lives. Early in January 2019, her new Netflix series ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’ began running. Getting your own TV show used to be a sign that you have made it big time. It’s a symbol that you are popular and famous. Unfortunately, it also means that you are in the spotlight and more scrutinized than ever before. Some things that she has said and the setting of the show have upset some people and caused them concern. So, what happened? Isn’t tidying up a good thing? Let’s talk about Marie Kondo and why she is getting some pushback from North American viewers.
