Everybody loves Pandas, and everyone associates pandas with China. For centuries, China has used the panda as a diplomatic ambassador. The cute, cuddly bear has become the ultimate symbol of soft power throughout the world. Is it really, though? As China resorts more and more each day to sabre-rattling and tough talk, does it diminish the soft power gains of panda diplomacy? Is it really diplomatic if pandas are rented for one million dollars each, and is it fair to the panda to be traded for goodwill?
