To work for peanuts means to work for a very small amount of money. When beginning work, peanuts are OK, but as we get older, we need more.

Idiom: Work for peanuts

Probably the only ones who enjoy working for peanuts are squirrels because it’s an idiom that means to work for a small amount of money.

Most of us are working for the man all week, and what do we get?

Peanuts!

That’s OK for squirrels, but it’s not enough for us!

Many people feel that they are working for peanuts, which is probably one of the main reasons there is a movement to increase the minimum wage in Canada and the United States to $15.00 per hour.

Imagine if the minimum wage in Japan were ¥1,500 per hour.

We’ll be lucky if it’s raised to ¥1,000 by 2025.

Nobody is happy to work for peanuts; they would rather say SHOW ME THE MONEY!

If you watch sports movies, you will understand this reference.
