Word of the Day: Wonk
Very generally we could say that a wonk is a nerd or geek. However, it’s much more than that.
We can often see this word used to describe government bureaucrats such as technocrats, or government advisors, who specialize in public policy or procedure.
For example, in most countries, politicians often change after an election, but the government wonks are the people who keep the country running smoothly during the change.
New governments like to make changes to public policy, budget expenses or defence spending, for example, but it is the government wonks who complete all the paperwork and make everything happen.
