Word of the Day: Wonk
We could very generally say that a wonk is a nerd or geek.
However, it’s much more than that.
This word is often used to describe government bureaucrats, such as technocrats or government advisors, who specialize in public policy or procedure.
For example, in most countries, politicians often change after an election, but the government wonks are the people who keep the country running smoothly during the change.
New governments like to change public policy, budget expenses, or defence spending, for example.
Still, it is the government wonks who complete all the paperwork and make everything happen.
