Word of the Day: Wild West
An interesting term that came up in one of my classes this week is the Wild West.
Wild West refers to the days when people were moving into the unsettled American West.
At that time, there was no law and order.
Now, we all know that the western part of the US is pretty wild.
Just hang out for a few days on Venice Beach, and you will see what I mean.
However, the Wild West refers to back in the day when people were still moving into the unsettled West.
There were no rules at that time, and everybody did whatever they wanted.
It was the Wild West.
These days, when an area or industry is not regulated, or people are not following the rules, we say, ‘God, this place is just like the Wild West.’
