Word of the Day: Technocrat

Before we can understand the word technocrat, we need to know what a bureaucrat is.

To use a slang term, a bureaucrat is a wonk; a bureaucrat is one of those people who run the government.

Now that we have that clear, we can talk about technocrats, who are technology or science experts who have a lot of influence on the government.

Technocrats, like bureaucrats or wonks, are not politicians.

They’re experts who advise governments or big businesses, and because they are considered specialists, their advice can influence what the government or large company does.
