WotD: Raison d’être
Here we go.
Here is another little bit of French today.
We’ll look at raison d’être.
The English language has accepted and incorporated many words from other languages.
Raison d’être is an example of a French word incorporated into English, and native speakers still use it today.
Raison d’être is a French term that is used in English.
Raison d’être means the reason for being or existing.
It means the reason for being or existing.
For example, most companies’ raison d’être is to make a profit.
In most cases, if a company doesn’t make a profit, they have no reason to exist.
A person’s raison d’être is often the most important thing to them.
Perhaps a mother would say that her raison d’être is her children, or a scientist would say their raison d’être is their research, for example.
I guess most of us have a raison d’être.
