Word of the Day: Icky
Today, we have yet another great word that you can add to your repertoire to say that something is very disagreeable.
If something is icky, it’s very unpleasant.
English is excellent that way.
We have a lot of words to show disgust.
Slimy creatures such as snails or sea cucumbers are repellent to many people.
Most often, today’s word is used to describe something that looks nasty, but it can also be used to describe something with a bad taste.
In slang terms, the same things can also be called gross.
In my experience, I have mainly used icky when talking to young children.
Children love to pick things up and put them in their mouths.
Well, some things are revolting and should never be placed in anyone’s mouth, let alone the mouth of a small child.
So, if a child tries to touch something such as horse poo, I tell them, ‘Don’t touch that, that’s icky!’
