Word of the Day: Flip through (something)

People often flip through reading material such as books, magazines, or work documents.

When we flip through something, we do not spend a lot of time reading it.

We look at the pictures, peruse the writing, and then turn the pages.

In almost every dentist’s office I have been to, there were some magazines for people to flip through as they nervously waited for the dental assistant to call their name.

This post is understandable by someone with at least a 7th-grade education (age 12).

On the Flesch-Kincaid reading-ease test, this post scores 72.
