WotD: Ephemeral

If something is ephemeral, it only lasts for a very short time.

This is the end of the cherry blossom viewing season in Wakayama.

Cherry blossoms are ephemeral because they last for only a week or two.

Sometimes the season is even shorter if it rains.

This is one of the things that makes them so appealing to Japanese people.

For thousands of years, the Japanese very much appreciated and cherished the fleeting beauty of the blossoms.

Over the past few years, Japan has experienced a phenomenal increase in the number of tourists who visit Japan.

Millions of foreign tourists, who may have previously taken the beauty for granted, are building an appreciation for the beauty of cherry blossoms.
