WotD: Due diligence

Due diligence means we must take measures to protect ourselves and our property.

We all have a responsibility for our lives and the results of our actions.

For example, we can exercise due diligence by not smoking in bed.

Smoking in bed can cause a fire, damaging us and others and their property.

Heck, it could do both.

You may say that it’s common sense, but the problem is that common sense is not so common.

We have to exercise due diligence because we have a responsibility not to cause a fire by our carelessness.

Today’s term is also used in business to mean you must do your homework.

There are investment scams all over the world.

So-called businesspeople try to get people to invest in their surefire moneymaking ideas.

Each investor must exercise due diligence and do their homework by investigating the company to ensure its reputability and trustworthiness before handing over their money.

It’s a person’s responsibility to make sure they’re making a good decision before signing a contract or giving money to a so-called businessperson or company.
