WotD: Weekend warrior

They sit next to you at the office and stand in front of you at the grocery store.

It could be a 55-year-old man with a beer belly or a 35-year-old mom with a ponytail.

No matter who they are or what they look like, they are weekend warriors, and you would never know it unless you know them personally.

So, “What the heck is a weekend warrior?” I hear you thinking.

Well, a weekend warrior is a person who participates in some activity but only in their spare time and mainly on the weekends.

When you think weekend warrior, you probably have some image of a far-right American dressed in green fatigues with their face blacked out driving a four-wheel drive with a fully loaded AR-15 outfitted with a bump stock laying on the back seat.

You’re not wrong.

They could be a weekend warrior.

However, most weekend warriors are far less menacing.

Many people like to do things on the weekend.

In Japan, many women participate in volleyball games on the weekends.

It’s an opportunity for moms to get a girl’s night out.

In Canada, of course, ice hockey is a big thing for weekend warriors.

People pool their money or join a beer league to rent out ice rinks and play on the weekends.

It’s a bit of (mostly) harmless fun.

Then there is the Landrover Owners Club of Japan or any country, for that matter.

Most four-wheel drive enthusiasts like to go off-road on the weekends.

Being a weekend warrior is excellent as it gives us another dimension to our lives instead of just work and home.

What kind of weekend warrior are you?
