Word of the Day: Weather (verb)
If you can read this, then you should be familiar with the word weather.
Weather is one of the first English words everyone learns, and the weather is a frequent topic for small talk.
With that said, do you know how to use weather as a verb?
No?
Isn’t that the beautiful thing about English?
You think you know a word, and then, BAM!
It has another meaning, too.
When used as a verb, weather means to survive or successfully deal with a challenging situation or problem.
When a ship is on the ocean, and there is a storm, it has to weather (survive) the storm.
Just like ships, politicians, too, have to weather storms.
Mr. Abe, the current Prime Minister of Japan, is dealing with many scandals right now.
There is the Moritomo Gakuen scandal, the Self Defense Forces missing documents scandal, the Finance Ministry’s sexual harassment scandal, etc.
Mr. Abe hopes to weather (deal with/survive) these scandals and remain Prime Minister for a little while longer.
That’s all for today.
I hope that you can weather any problematic situation that comes your way this week.
Keep your fingers crossed for good luck.
