WotD: Watering hole
In natural environments worldwide, you’ll find animals down at the local watering hole for a drink.
The watering hole can be quite a dangerous place.
The carnivores like to hang out there.
They know that the herbivores have to come down for a drink sometime, and they’ll be vulnerable.
On Friday and Saturday nights all around the world, you’ll find people down at the local watering hole relaxing and blowing off some steam.
Your local watering hole can be an enjoyable place to have a good time with friends.
On the other hand, just like animals, it can be a perilous place to be.
The local watering hole is a euphemism for a pub or bar.
When people consume alcohol, they can make themselves vulnerable and easily be taken advantage of.
Just like animals, we must be on our toes and looking for predators.
Once bitten, twice shy as the expression goes.
Sometimes, we have to learn the hard way from our mistakes.
I prefer to play it safe and not get bitten at all, though.
I can remember going down to the Roxy in Vancouver for a few drinks so that I could get out on the dance floor and make a fool out of myself.
This was back in my university days.
I also remember that as time passed, things started getting a little rougher.
After the first few downtown gang-related stabbings and shootings, I figured it wasn’t worth the risk.
It was safer to buy a slab (24 cans of beer), turn on the stereo and enjoy a few brews on the patio.
Whether you prefer a few brews at home or go down to your local watering hole, drink responsibly.
Never drink and drive.
