English Idiom: Up to par

When something is up to par, it meets an expected standard.

When we go golfing, we expect the golf course to be immaculate.

The grounds must be exquisitely groomed, the atmosphere must be serene, and there must be no distractions.

If the quality of a golf course is anything less than perfect, it is not up to par and will not attract many golfers.

People living in Japan have also come to expect a level of customer service far above that typically provided in North America.

In Japan, excellent customer service is par for the course, and anything that does not meet our expected standard is not up to par.
