English Expression: There is no such thing as bad press
There is no such thing as bad press is a literal expression; the words and the meaning are the same.
Another similar expression is all publicity is good publicity.
The meaning is that anytime a person is in the news for good reasons or bad, it helps improve their name recognition among the public and enables more people to know who they are.
I am not so sure, though.
If your name is in the news because you saved a drowning child, then that is a good thing, right?
What if your name is in the news because you were arrested for drinking and driving?
In both cases, your name is in the news, many people now know who you are, and the expression is there is no such thing as bad press.
I suppose this expression is good to use if you don’t care if you are famous or infamous.
