WotD: The rat race
Well, hello to you.
I’m glad you’ve taken some time to escape the rat race and spend a few peaceful moments reading my post.
Even if you’re unaware of what the rat race means, I can tell you that you are in it.
Oh yes, you are.
The rat race is the quest for power and money that makes up the society in which we live today.
I hear you when you say that you don’t want power.
But you do want money.
Even if you don’t want money, you do need it, which means you are a player in the game commonly known as the rat race.
Everyone needs to work for a living.
There are different kinds of work and various ways to get paid.
In the end, we all need to do something to put food on the table.
Since our earliest ancestors began walking on two legs, the race has existed in one form or another.
Time continues to go by, and life continues to get faster.
We’re all on that hamster wheel, or rat wheel if that makes more sense to you, running for our lives.
Whether you’re trying to make a sales quota to get a salary increase, working towards a promotion to get that big bonus or banging your head against that glass ceiling waiting for a crack to appear, you, my friend, are in the rat race.
It’s a way of life.
We all spend the first 20 years or so of our lives preparing to get into the rat race.
Then, spend the next 40 years hoping to get out of it alive.
I’ll leave it there for today.
Thanks again for taking some time to read the post.
Now, it’s time for you to return to your version of the rat race, and I’ll get back to mine.
