WotD: The dark side
Beware the dark side.
No, we’re not talking about Star Wars here.
We’re talking about every person you know, from the lovely elderly lady down the street to the nice man who cuts your hair.
Everyone, absolutely everyone – with no exceptions – has a dark side.
What? What is the dark side?
Good question.
I don’t know.
You see, it’s dark over there, and you can never see very clearly.
I can tell you that the dark side holds the parts of people or activities that are unpleasant, evil, or otherwise not nice.
They are the stuff of whispered rumours and investigative newspaper stories.
We’ve all done things we are not proud of, and we all have uncontrollable thoughts and urges we struggle to keep hidden.
They are what we call the dark side.
Often these are the stories we prefer to take to the grave with us.
Have you told your wife and children or – your husband – everything you did in your twenties?
If you did, then they weren’t exhilarating times.
We all have our dark sides.
It helps to maintain balance in the universe.
Now that I’m thinking about it, perhaps that is why we marry.
During my travels, I’ve met quite a few guys who, if not for their girlfriends and wives, would have gone entirely over to the dark side with no chance of redemption.
I wrote once about how women tend to see the good in men and straighten them out.
Those guys, and occasionally women, are often saved from their own dark sides.
Think about what could have been the next time you look in the mirror.
