Idiom: Take the Plunge

Life is a series of decisions about whether to take the plunge or not.

No matter how old you are, take a moment to reflect on how you got to where you are.

How many times have you passed on taking the plunge, and how well did that work out for you?

When you take the plunge, you commit yourself to a course of action about which you are nervous and somewhat unsure.

Whether you should ask that cute girl out on a date, what university to apply to, or if taking a year (or 10) to travel the world is a good idea, all require you to make a decision and take the plunge.

Once you take the plunge and ask a girl out on a date, the outcome is out of your hands.

While considering it, the power is in your hands, but once you pop the question, she can say yes, no or laugh in your face.

Either way, within 15 minutes, all of her friends will know you asked.

Yep, the cat is out of the bag.

You have given her the power to say yes and make your day or refuse and become one of the most embarrassing moments in your life.

That’s why it’s called taking the plunge.

Once you take the plunge off that cliff into the ocean of the unknown, the future becomes unpredictable.

However, that’s also the most incredible thrill of being alive.

So, ask out that girl, then take a round-the-world trip together before going to university.

When in the moment, we are afraid to take the plunge, but years later, we always regret we didn’t.
