WotD: Square off
Although it’s great to be quiet and easy-going once in a while, there comes a time when you have to square off with someone.
People will push you around, ignore what you want and walk all over you if they think you will never argue or fight for something.
Yep, that’s right.
When people or animals square off, they get ready to argue or fight.
There are some telltale signs.
People will face you and look directly into your eyes; they may even gnash their teeth or get all red in the face.
No matter what they do when someone wants to square off with you, you need to stand your ground and show them that you are no pushover.
Look at our friendly sheep up there in the picture.
What’s your image of sheep?
Do you have the picture of sheep squaring off with each other over a little grassy spot in the sun?
Probably not.
For most people, sheep are the fluffy white things jumping over fences that they count on to help themselves go to sleep at night.
Believe me; sheep are no different than horses, dogs or giraffes.
When they feel someone is pushing them around, they will square off and get ready to argue or put up a fight if it comes to that.
Most often, though, showing that you are not afraid to square off will be enough to make the other sheep (or person) back off and leave you alone.
Bullies tend to choose what they perceive as the weakest targets.
They’re not tough at all, so we call them bullies.
We see this all the time.
When people are willing to square off with bullies, bullies crawl back under the rock they came from.
