Word of the Day: Springboard

Springboards are bouncy and are used to launch us into other things.

Before diving, you need to climb to a high place or jump on a bouncy springboard or diving board to get high enough to dive correctly.

Springboards are not only for diving, though.

They can also be the things which provide opportunities for further advancement.

Having a McJob*, for example, can be a springboard to eventually becoming a human resources manager.

Likewise, being given responsibility for a small project can help launch a person into a future career with even more responsibility and duties managing large, international projects.

Don’t get angry the next time you feel stuck in a low-level job; look at it as a springboard to future advancement.

Everyone starts at the bottom.

McJob: a low-paid job that offers few chances of advancement.
