WotD: Sign off

Most things need approval of some kind.

A person in authority will sign off on something when they want to approve it or give a subordinate permission to do something.

If a child wants to go to a sleepover at their friend’s house, they must first get their parents to sign off on it.

If you want to take a few days off to vacation in Las Vegas, you must get your boss and perhaps the HR department to sign off on your holiday.

Signing off on something doesn’t always have to be formal.

It can be as simple as getting someone’s OK, as with a child seeking permission to go to a sleepover.

Your team leader could sign off on implementing one of your ideas by giving a thumbs up.
