Word of the Day: Senior moment

I want to be able to say you’ll never have a senior moment, but if I did, I’d be lying.

As sure as you’ll one day be a senior, you’ll be having senior moments.

First, they will be few and far between.

You’ll forget your glasses are on top of your head, or you won’t be able to find your car in the parking lot.

It’ll start with seemingly innocuous memory slips.

Have you ever walked into a room full of purpose and intent only to forget why you went there?

Have you ever boiled the kettle for a cup of tea and then forgotten to make the tea?

Perhaps you’ve driven to the supermarket and then walked home because you forgot you drove there.

OK, this one goes beyond the scope of a senior moment.

As we age, we tend to forget minor things like the ones I mentioned above. It’s normal, and we refer to these as senior moments.

Most times, we smile, have a little chuckle about it and go on with our day.

Although having these temporary mental lapses is normal, experiencing too many in a row may indicate that you are preoccupied or simply too busy.

You may need to relax for a weekend or slow down a bit.

Honestly, they are not necessarily age-related.

I remember when my mom was angry, she could never remember the name of the kid at who she was mad.

She’d go to the bottom of the stairs and yell, “Rebecca, Charity-Joy, Davey, Rebecca, Angelica, Evangeline, Davey…Oh, all of you get down here NOW!”

Senior moments, you have to laugh at them because if you don’t laugh, you’re going to cry.
