Idiom: See through you

Let me ask you a question.

What do police officers and wives have in common?

Yep, that’s right.

They have the innate ability to see through you.

Cops and wives know what you are really like and can see through you.

They are not going to be tricked by you.

Now, some police officers are also wives, so that’s double trouble right there if you lie instead of telling the truth.

I like watching Japanese and American police shows on TV.

I’ve noticed that the bad guys always lie, and the cops always see through them.

Whether the question is ‘Have you been drinking tonight?’, ‘How fast do you think you were going?’ or ‘Is there anything in your car I should know about?’ the suspected bad guy lies.

Of course, the lie is useless because the cop can see through the suspect.

Lying never works, and it only makes things worse.

That brings me to wives.

I only have one wife, but I suspect most of them are similar.

My wife can see through me as if I were a pane of glass.

Whether her question is ‘Did you give cheese to that dog again?’, ‘Did you eat the last yomogi mochi?’ or ‘Why is there an empty package of MY favourite snack in the garbage?’ she can see through me.

Yes, I lie, I admit it!

I have to resist the power of the female gaze.

I don’t do it for myself but for all men everywhere who have wives who can see through them.

After being together for more than 20 years, I have no idea what my wife is thinking, and IT’S NOT FAIR!
