English Phrase: Scratch your head
Every week, I have to scratch my head to come up with Idioms and Words of the Day to put in my posts.
Scratching your head is a nervous reaction to concentrating and thinking hard.
When I decided to write about this phrase, Colombo came to mind immediately.
The perpetrators in Colombo episodes always thought that he was a bumbling fool.
Part of Colombo’s appeal was that he seemed to be thinking hard about his problems.
He even scratched his head to show that he was thinking hard, which is what the phrase scratch your head means.
It may seem easy, but even though these posts are relatively short, coming up with an idea is a real head-scratcher from time to time.
Anyway, like Colombo, I enjoy a problem that makes me scratch my head.
PS, a head-scratcher is a challenging problem that makes you think hard.
