Expression: Promise the moon

Often investment advisers, politicians or even boyfriends will promise the moon when, in reality, they have absolutely no possibility of being able to carry out their promise.

We must always be careful when people make promises that seem too good to be true.

There are many stories in the news about retirees investing money in a get-rich-quick scheme.

These schemes usually make over-the-top promises, such as 16% interest on their investment within six months.

The so-called investment adviser promises the moon when the only thing they can deliver is a hole in the investor’s retirement savings plan.

Be careful.

If someone makes you a promise that is too extravagant or seems too good to be true, they promise you the moon.

It would be best if you walked away.

On second thought, you should run.

As the adage goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
