Word of the Day: Par

Par is a word that is regularly used in golf.

Par means the usual standard or usual condition of something.

When used in golf, it means the usual number of strokes a golfer should take to finish a hole or a course.

Golfers can be either over par, under par, or at par.

As I like to remind everyone, the English language is very good at borrowing words from foreign languages.

In this case, par comes from the Latin language and means equal.
