Word of the Day: Pang

You can have a pang of jealousy or hunger.

It’s much worse when you have both at the same time.

First of all, I have to tell you that a pang is a sudden, sharp, painful emotion or an unpleasant feeling in your stomach when you are hungry.

Now, imagine that you are famished.

You’ve been working on something super important all day, and the deadline was 5:00 pm.

Unfortunately, you hadn’t even had time to stop for lunch, so you worked straight through.

However, the day is over; you were successful, and you are on your way home. YAY!

It’s quite embarrassing to be on the train because your stomach is rumbling, and you are grimacing from the hunger pangs.

Then on the platform of a station, as the train waits for other passengers to board, you see people eating ramen at a tiny platform kiosk.

Now, not only are you feeling pangs of hunger, but you are also feeling pangs of jealousy.

You envy these people, their hot, steaming bowls of fragrant, delicious ramen.

Oh, the torture of it all is too much for you!

You decide to get off at the next station and eat something, anything, as long as it’s food.

The hunger pangs are almost causing you to double over with pain.

Like me, you live in the countryside.

Once the train leaves, the station is quiet and deserted, but you can smell ramen.

A little old man is selling steaming bowls of ramen from the back of a minitruck outside the station.

Heaven does exist, and you have found it!

No more pangs of jealousy or hunger now.

Today is a good day.
