WotD: One-upmanship
There is a lot of competition in this world, especially in sports.
If we think about it, sports is a constant game of one-upmanship.
This means that someone is trying to be better than someone else.
Often, they do this by trying to be bigger, better, faster, richer or smarter than the other guy.
Everyone is trying to prove that they are better than the next person, which is especially noticeable in basketball.
If one player does a fantastic layup or slam dunk, then another player, even someone on the same team, has to show they can do better.
In spectator sports, one-upmanship is excellent as long as it doesn’t affect teamwork.
It creates a spectacle for the fans and makes each game a must-watch, which is also good for the bottom line.
