Word of the Day: Oligarch
Nations and their militaries always spend their time preparing for the last war.
When the next war does begin, it’s always fought in a way different from what was predicted.
The next war has already started, and one of the main targets in Russia is about 117 men known as the oligarchs.
What the heck are they? Why are they so important, and how are they being targeted?
The word oligarch comes from Greek roots.
Oligo means few, and -arch means ruler or leader.
Oligarchs are the few extremely powerful people who make up an oligarchy and rule a country or industry.
In Russia, the oligarchs are the billionaires who each control a different sector of Russian industry.
They each got their empires after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1989.
The Oligarchs are extremely powerful in their own right; however, Vladimir Putin is the puppet master.
In the Russian world, Putin gives, and Putin takes away.
Go against Putin, he goes against you, and you go away for a very long time.
It has been said that Vladimir Putin is the richest man in the world.
Sorry, Jeff Bezos, you don’t rule a country.
Anyways, it’s also noted that of whatever a Russian oligarch has, Putin owns half.
That’s why we are now in a war of sanctions against Russia and the oligarchs.
By denying the oligarchs access to their money and possessions, the West can also deny Putin access to funds to build up his military and wage war.
These days, it’s not the generals who are the primary leaders of war; it’s the bankers.
