Word of the Day: Novelty
Way back on February 9th last year, I introduced the adjective novel.
Novelty is the noun form of novel, not like the book but novel, like the adjective.
Anything new to you or you have not experienced before can be a novelty.
Do you remember those fidget spinners?
No?
I had almost forgotten them, too.
They were everywhere for a few months, and it seemed as if everyone had one.
They were a real novelty for a while.
The kids loved them, teachers hated them, and parents had no idea what all the fuss was about.
Then, suddenly, the novelty wore off, and Fidget Spinners were gone just like pet rocks and Tamagotchi.
The novelty disappears very quickly in the world of useless things.
