WotD: No-brainer

There are some things that you should know or be able to figure out very quickly.

We call them no-brainers.

You may have heard the saying, ‘There is no such thing as a stupid question.’

Well, I’m here today to tell you that there are stupid questions, and often they come from the most brilliant people you will ever meet.

It’s not only an answer to a question that can be a no-brainer.

Sometimes it’s actions as well.

A no-brainer requires you to use very little or none of your mental capacity.

For example, if someone offers you a million dollars, you take it.

That’s a no-brainer.

Take it first, then ask questions later.

We all have to choose a career, but the choice is much easier for some than others.

The decision to join the military, become a lawyer or drive a truck comes easy for them.

They know who they are and what they like.

Their decision on what career path they should take is a no-brainer for them and the people who are closest to them.

Then there are the decisions or actions we think are no-brainers, but others seem to get wrong every time.

It may be that no-brainers come more quickly the older you are and the more experience you have.

The other day I wrote about the importance of carrying extra medication when taking a highway trip in winter during a storm.

For a Canadian from the countryside, that’s a no-brainer.

It may not be as apparent if you’re an Okinawan on holiday in Hokkaido in January.

From a Canadian point of view, though, who vacations in Hokkaido in the middle of January anyway?
