English Proverb: Nice guys finish last

The proverb nice guys finish last means that if you are kind and considerate to others, you will not get what you want in life.

It tells us that in life, you need to be tough and even cutthroat at times.

First, let me make a little disclaimer: I’m not saying this one is true, or I agree with it; I’m introducing it because it is part of English.

With that said, though, a proverb is based on accumulated knowledge over a long time, so there must be some truth to this one.

If you are sweet and kind to everybody, they will pass you by and take what you want, whether it is a promotion, romantic partner or business opportunity.

If you want to get ahead of the game, you may have to step on a few toes or even push a few people out of the way.

Nice guys finish last if you are not a fierce competitor.
