WotD: Midas touch
Way back in the history of the world, in the days of ancient Greek mythology, there was a king named Midas.
For a good deed, King Midas was granted a wish, and he wished that everything he touched would turn to gold.
You might think that having the Midas touch would be a great thing, and so did King Midas – at first.
He touched a leaf, then a rock, and both turned to gold.
He turned quite a few roses into gold as well.
Sounds quite remarkable, right?
When he became hungry, he realized all the food he touched also turned to gold.
In the HBO drama Game of Thrones, it was said that Tywin Lannister was so wealthy he sh** gold, but even today, no one can eat gold.
King Midas realized having what became known as the ‘Midas touch‘ was just as much a curse as a blessing.
Midas was a king, so he could afford to have someone feed him.
I guess he survived and died naturally.
These days having the Midas touch means everything you become involved in becomes a success.
I would have said that Donald Trump has the Midas touch, but after the last mid-term elections, it’s evident that Trump is just as much a loser as everyone else.
Even for the best of us, success is hit-or-miss.
Trump loves gold just as much as King Midas did, but he also tends to shoot himself in the foot just like King Midas did.
It may seem great to have the Midas touch, but it always comes at a price.
